Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) and the ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration (MIFI), signed an agreement to enable employers to apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), to fill selected positions without having to include proof of recruitment efforts.

Check if the job you are offering is on the list of occupations (french only) eligible for simplified processing.

You can hire a temporary foreign agricultural worker under one of the following streams:

Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program

  • temporary foreign worker must be from Mexico or the participating Caribbean countries
  • production must be included on the National Commodities List

Agricultural stream

  • temporary foreign worker can be from any country
  • production must be included on the National Commodities List

Stream for high-wage positions

  • production is not included on the National Commodities List
  • temporary foreign worker can be hired for any high-wage agricultural position

Stream for low-wage positions

  • production is not included on the National Commodities List
  • temporary foreign worker can be hired for a low-wage agricultural position

Quebec employers are exempt from submitting an LMIA application if they hire a foreign worker who:

  • has a valid work permit
  • holds a skilled worker Certificate of Selection in Quebec (CSQ)
  • resides in the province of Quebec
  • has applied for permanent residency under the Quebec Skilled Worker class

The TFW must also fall under one of the following categories:

  • is seeking to extend the work permit for their current employer
  • is seeking to renew the work authorization with a new employer in Quebec
  • is a foreign student who has obtained a post-graduation work permit and has a job offer in the province of Quebec
  • is a work permit holder through participation in a program under the initiative International Experience Canada (IEC) and:
    • is seeking to extend the work authorization for the current employer
    • renew it for a new employer in Quebec

The Global Talent Stream aims to help companies access highly skilled global talent to expand their workforce in Canada and compete globally.

You may be eligible for Category A of the Global Talent Stream if you have been referred to this stream by one of the designated referral partners and wish to hire foreign workers with unique and specialized skills.

Or

You may be eligible for Category B of the Global Talent Stream if you wish to hire highly skilled foreign workers on the Global Talent Occupations List. A referral is not required to qualify for Category B.
